Інтелектуальна гра. Англія та англійці (8 клас)

Інтелектуальна групова гра “English and England”
Тема:‘’English and England’’.
(An Intellectual Team Game for Pupils of Form 8).
Мета:
1.     Показати, що учні засвоїли з англійської мови за час навчання.
2.     Розвивати мовленнєві здібності та вміння працювати в команді.
3.     Сприяти переходу лексики з пасивного запасу до активного.
4.     Розвивати пізнавальний інтерес учнів.
5.     Формувати культуру спілкування.
6.     Виховувати почуття самостійності та вміння долати труднощі.
7.     Виховувати інтерес та любов до вивчення англійської мови.

Хід заходу
”English and England”

T: Dear pupils and guests! I’m very glad to see you. Welcome to our intellectual team game “English and England’’.  I hope you’ll enjoy it.
    Two teams are welcome to our game. But first, let me introduce our jury. They are…  They will judge today’s contest. They’ll give 1 point for each correct answer. We are very glad to see you.
    And now I want to introduce you our participants. The first team is called …, the second team –…, and the third one -… .
    We wish every of the team good luck.
    Each team is supposed to have their particular features- I mean the name and the motto. So, let’s get acquainted with them.

TEXT 1
The greatest playwright in the history of  English and world literature, he reflected the spirit of the Renaissance, the epoch of great discoveries and darings, with all its contradictions and tragedies. He wrote 37 plays altogether. Among his plays there are historical dramas such as “ King Henry 6”, “King Richard 3”, comedies such as “ The Taming of the Shrew”, great tragedies such as “ Hamlet”, “Othello”. He is also known as the author of 2 long poems and 154 sonnets.

VI.            THE  SIGHTS  OF  LONDON
T:There are a lot of interesting places in the capital of Great Britain. Listen to the texts and guess what sights the texts describe.

1.     It is a place where British kings and queens are crowned. It is also a cemetery full of great people. The graves of Charles Darwin and sir Isaac Newton are there among others.

2.     It is a place where the British government works. In addition it is famous for its clock tower, called Big Ben.

3.     It is the London home of the Royal family. It contains 600 rooms. Every August and September tourists can also visit this gorgeous building.

4.     It was a wooden church about 1300 years ago. Now it’s the largest and most important church in Great Britain.

5.     Today it is London’s museum of  Royaljewellery and the armoury. At the various times in the past, it was a prison and a zoo.

6.     It crosses Thames River. Like any drawbridge it can raise its middle to let large ships pass. From its two towers tourists observe the city centre.

    T: Read English proverbs and sayings and think about their equivalents in Ukrainian.

IX.            BRITISH  HOLIDAYS
   T: Listen to the texts and guess what British holidays are described in them. Make up a list of these holidays.

TEXT1
In England this holiday is not so widely observed as Christmas. However, many people celebrate it in one way or another. The celebration usually begins at about 8 o’clock in the evening and goes until the early hours of the morning. At midnight everyone can hear the chimes of Big Ben. (New Year)

TEXT2
It’s the day when boys and girls, sweethearts and lovers, husband and wives, friends and neighbours exchange greetings of affection, undying love or funny texts. The day when people choose their sweethearts.(St. Valentine’s Day)

TEXT 3
It is celebrated as the start of spring or a religious festival. It is the time for giving and receiving presents which traditionally take the form of an egg. It is the time when people traditionally eat hot cross buns. (Easter)

More people go to church on this day than at any other time. On returning from church mothers go to the kitchen to put the turkey into the oven. The turkey and the pudding are traditional dishes on this holiday. In Trafalgar Square stands an enormous Holiday Tree. (Christmas)
