Dear children and guests! Today we will see a competition of the lively and quick-witted between the teams of 5A and 5B. We welcome you to this event and wish you every success. We have jury with the following membership: our English teachers…. They will listen to you, check your answers and decide which team is the best today.
Our competition consists of seven rounds: Greeting, Proverbs and Words, Captains’ Competitions, Grammar, The Best Emblem, Home Task, Singing the Song. We wish every of the teams good luck.

The First Round “Greeting”.
We have two teams “Tropical Paradise” (5A) and “Bingo” (5B). The captain of the team “Tropical Paradise” is …. The captain of the team “Bingo” is…. Each of the teams has to introduce yourselves and sings the song about your team.
The example of the greeting: Hello! My name is…. I am 11. I like to play the piano and read books.
The team “Tropical Paradise” sings the song “Tropical Paradise”.
There are coconuts and mangoes.
There is every kind of spice.
There are pineapples and bananas
In our tropical paradise.
There are red peppers and chicken.
There is fresh fish and rice.
There are barbecues beside the sea
In our tropical paradise.
Is there any cool water?
Are there any drinks with ice?
Yes, there is everything
In our tropical paradise.


 The team “Bingo” sings the song “Bingo”.
There was a farmer who had a dog
And Bingo was his name, oh!
B-I-N-G-O!
B-I-N-G-O!
B-I-N-G-O!
And Bingo was his name, oh!
(Repeat for the fifth times missing one letter.)

The Second Round “Proverbs and Words”.
1. This round has three tasks. The first task is called “Split Proverbs”. Each  team will have the cards with the beginnings and the endings of the proverbs. The beginnings and the endings are mixed. Find the proverbs.
Better late                     than never.
It’s never                       too late to learn.
So many men,                         so many minds.
A sound mind                          in a sound body.
East or West,                home is best.
There is no place                     like home.
Every dog                                has his day.
It’s raining                    cats and dogs.
First think,                              then speak.
Think today and                     speak tomorrow.

2. The second task is called “Odd Word Out”. Each  team will have the card with words. You have to write out the word that is different.

Keys: 1. table; 2. friend; 3. man; 4. nice; 5. one; 6. quick; 7. bag; 8. fifth; 9. mat; 10. mouse; 11. tomato; 12. hen.  
3. The third task is called “The Hidden Question”. You have to change the letters and make up a new word.

Key: How many friends do you have?

The Third Round “Captains’ Competition”.
There are two tasks for the captains.
1. “Tongue- Twisters”. One of the captains takes the card and says the beginning of the tongue-twister and the other captain says the ending of its. You have to say it in turn.

- That’s my aunt’s                    cat Charlie. He’s fantastic at art!
- Thanks to those                      thirty-three thirsty girls.
- Yes! You! We want                your yellow shirts this week.
- One potato, two potatoes,

                                                   Seven potatoes, more!

                                                   Then, then, then ?

                                                   Again, again, again!
Now you should say your tongue- twisters as quickly as you can.

3. “The Secret Picture”. There are eight objects in the picture. What are they? Write down the names of clothes.

Keys: shirt, stocking, sock, cap, skirt, blouse, shoes, scarf.
The Fourth Round “Grammar”.  
Each  team will have a sheet of paper with three tasks:
1) Unscramble the sentences.

4.                old, your, is, how, brother?
5.                in, form, are, what, you?
2) What’s wrong?

5.                My brother has dog.
6.                My sister a pretty girl. 

3) Fill in the necessary letters and words.
One point is one letter, two points are two letters.

Your home task was to stage a short play called “Hot Dog looks for his Partner”. Each team shows its play.
Narrator: Hot Dog is a private detective. He is looking for his new assistant. The first is Cool Cat. Hot Dog is asking some questions. After Cool Cat three people more are applying for the job. (There is a knock at the door.)
Hot Dog: Come in.
Cool Cat: Hello. I’m Cool Cat. I’m a private detective and I …
Hot Dog: Ah! My new assistant. Right, Mr Cat. Can you answer a few questions?
Cool Cat: Well, yes, but…
Hot Dog: Can you swim?
Cool Cat: Yes, I can.
Hot Dog: Can you run fast?
Cool Cat: Yes, but I…    
Hot Dog: Can you drive a car?
Cool Cat: Yes, and I can ride a horse and I can fly a plane.

Cindy Cat: No, I can’t. But I’m learning about computers at the moment.
Hot Dog: Are you good at Math?
Cindy Cat: Good? I’m a genius at Math.
Hot Dog: Oh, I see. What do you do in your free time?
Cindy Cat: I don’t have any free time. I work 24 hours a day.
Hot Dog: Oh, You haven’t got a brother, have you?
Cindy Cat: No, why?
Hot Dog: Oh, it doesn’t matter. Thank you, Miss Cat.


The Seventh Round “Singing the Song”.
Each team has to sing the song. The team “Tropical Paradise” sings the song “The Wheels on the bus go round and round”.
